Day 147
Thankful for catch-up phone calls with the bestie, delicious home cooked food and evening runs.
I love how when you are best friends with someone it doesn't matter how long it's been since you've talked because you can always pick things up again. You find yourselves laughing about ridiculous events and reminiscing on the past in a matter of a few minutes. So incredibly blessed by the friends God has provided me!

Day 135
Thankful for half days at work, wrapping up final things at the old apartment and time to cook.
I am beginning to feel more comfortable at my new clinic but not necessarily more confident in my ability. I still feel as though I have all this book knowledge stored up but accessing it has become an issue. I'm not failing miserably I just tend to have one real dumb response a day that lingers and continues to haunt me when I get home. Sigh...change is hard!
There's this awkwardness that accompanies the role of a student physical therapist. They want to give you opportunities to learn but I never know where the line is. It's so weird because these aren't technically "my" patients but I have the opportunity to treat them. I just never know what is really expected of me. I don't like to step on people's toes but I also don't like to feel like I am just in the way, I want to be productive, helpful and creative without be overwhelming and unteachable. It's a balance game that I haven't mastered just yet. Oh the life of a 20-something...

Day 133
Thankful for an understanding second CI, an interesting short day at work and a PAIN FREE ( :] ) run!
So I have now met two of my three clinical instructors (yup, things are out of control!) and the second one is basically what I imagine my old brother would be if be was a physical therapist. It is so bizarre. They have the same mannerisms and sense of humor. It's kind of awesome though because I've already decided we will get along just fine.
I am still adjusting to the quick pace and style of my new clinic but I am trying rally hard to remain optimistic! I know that there is knowledge in this brain of mine, it's just a matter of figuring out how to apply it all.
AND!!!! My three month activity restriction ended on Sunday but I wasn't able to "test out" my leg until today. I only ran about a mile but so far (knock on wood) I have no pain! I am REALLY hoping this is a sign that the tibial stress fracture has healed. I don't need to be able to run 52 miles through the Sahara desert (true super marathon) or anything but I'd like to be able to go for a run after a stressful day. We shall see!

Day 132
Thankful for surviving day one of my second clinical, for patient's willing to let me practice on them and for God's provision throughout this entire process.
I have so many opportunities to learn at this new clinical and I pray that rather than becoming overwhelmed I would grab hold of each one. I pray that God would fill me with a positive outlook and would prevent me from focusing on my mistakes. I need to remember that in the grand scheme of things God is greater and my one true occupation is to be a follower of Christ and a proclaimer of His goodness.
Sunday, May 12, 2013
Day 131
Thankful for my Momma (every day but especially on Mother's Day), new adventures, and for living outside the city.
I didn't realize how much I missed cruising around neighborhood streets with my windows down and music playing until today. I've become so used to the hustle and bustle of city life that the quiet comfort found outside the city limits seems almost foreign. It's a reminder that at the end of this year I can go anywhere God calls me. I am not tied to a particular zip code and thus have been given free reign. Watch out world!
I am anxious about my first day tomorrow. I am incredibly awkward during small talk and normally embarrass myself on day one....sigh. :] But I am thankful for learning opportunities that will take place not inside a classroom. I pray that God would give me peace and rest tonight so tomorrow I feel refreshed and prepared to start on this new path. I pray for my clinical instructors and all the patients I will be interacting with over the next 14 weeks. I pray that God would remind me that this is a learning opportunity even on the rough, frustrating days. I have 6 months to soak up as much knowledge as possible before I head out and this marks the beginning of that time. I pray for God to work through my hands. I pray that my eyes would be opened and my heart ready to do what He calls me to while I am here.

Day 130
Thankful for my awesome older brother and sister in law, new residencies, disney movies, reminiscing about childhood, and delicious dinners.

Day 129
Thankful for opportunities to focus on all that has happened in 2 years. I am blessed beyond understanding and will never be able to express my complete gratitude. I move to Keller tomorrow and begin a new chapter in this crazy life of mine, but for tonight I want to focus on the past 2 years.
It seems crazy to realize that 2 years ago I was graduating from Texas A&M. I walked the stage, celebrated with family/friends and then loaded up Dad's truck and my car and headed off to Dallas to start physical therapy school. It was a whirlwind of a weekend and was full of anxiety and doubt, but God was sovereign. I was accepted to multiple PT schools but felt drawn to UTSW and I know without a doubt that much like my decision to attend TAMU, my decision to enroll at UTSW was God's choice for my life. I remember waking up wayyyyy too early the first morning. Katie and I drove to campus and arrived [oh ya know] an hour early for the hour intro. Whatevs, we were nervous. :] And from there my PT school journey would begin.
From the challenges of anatomy/cadaver lab to the awkwardness of clinical correlations (basically a "hey you're in PT school, take off your shirt". haha!) the first semester flew by! We learned how to do transfers and how to gait train. Then we rushed into second semester with pharmacology, tests and measures, kinesiology, pathology and the dreaded therapeutic interventions with QuerBear. I started to feel like I was learning PT things and began to really love my profession. 2012 started with TI 2, pathokines and then patient specific classes like NPM and MPM. I learned how to perform special tests and found a pull towards orthopedics. And before I knew it, I was a SECOND YEAR PT student! I'd go through pediatrics, geriatrics, cardiopulmonary, integument, NPM 2, MPM2 and the wrap-up courses this semester. I find myself at an absolute loss as to which area of PT I want to practice in but I am excited to spend the rest of the year on clinicals.
God has been so good to me despite my wandering. I have grown to love Him and depend on Him for all things. He has surrounded me with incredible friends and amazing ladies who are sources of continual encouragement, accountability and laughter.
As I close this part of my life, I realize that I still am seeking God's guidance. I know that over the next months He will show me, in His ways, where He needs me. I pray that I will be open to hear Him speak to me and that I will obediently follow wherever He calls me!

Day 128
Thankful for rainy days spent cozy with blankets and warm soup! Thankful for dinner dates with Lindsey! I am almost completely moved out of the Irving apartment. The older bro is coming in to town on Saturday to help move the big items and then I'll be a resident of Keller. I cannot believe I will be starting my second clinical in less than a week! TIME FLIES! I am nervous but excited to start a new adventure.

Day 126
Thankful for playlists to get me through packing, phone calls from Dad and big brother, and last nights in the apartment.
Packing continued today. Took a load of things to the new residence but still a long way to go. I am incredibly thankful for my older brother who will be making the drive from Houston to help me move all of my bigger items. I despise moving but I better get used to it because this is move one of 4.

Day 125
Thankful for lunch meets ups with Bekah, dinner with Lindsey and sweet notes from Momma.
Today marks the beginning of my packing nightmare. I do not know how it is possible to accumulate so much stuff...seriously it is OUT OF CONTROL. Lord help me to survive without completely losing my mind.

Day 124
Thankful for days spent with the family, opportunities to serve wound soldiers and chit chat time with Miss Alley.

Day 123
Thankful for entire days spent curled up reading on the couch, dinners with the little brother and for my Dad who always comes to my rescue when my car decides to act crazy.
I finished any entire book today...no shame. I am a HUGE book nerd. I read, in its entirety, "Redeeming Love". It was INCREDIBLE. I relate so to the main characters fears, self doubts, internal conflicts and overall desire to love & be loved. If you haven't read it I highly encourage you to pick up a copy. The lead lady was sold into prostitution as a little girl and would find herself jumping from place to place always surviving off the lust of men. She learned to turn off all emotion and to trust no one. She is rescued by a God-fearing gentlemen who becomes her idol and God in His mercy separates the two in order to woo her to Himself.
“Therefore, behold, I will allure her, bring her into the wilderness, and speak kindly to her. Then I will give her her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor as a door of hope. HOSEA 2 : 14 – 15”
Her inner dialogue reflects so many conversations that have left me feeling conflicted and distraught. One of my greatest fears is finding a true Godly man and then having to tell him my past. I fear the day I have to expel all the truths of my life before Christ. My spirit tells me to not worry because a true follower of Christ will not judge me or disregard me for sins (“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. MATTHEW 7 : 1”) but my flesh tells me that I do not deserve such a man. I know the anguish that comes with the reality that it is easier to shut off emotion than to be overwhelmed by it daily and this deadly cycle leads to darkness. God in His mercy did not leave me to my own control but rather broke me of my self-hatred and left me with nothing to do but fall on my knees at the base of the cross.
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest. MATTHEW 11 : 29”
“As a hart longs for flowing streams, so longs my soul for thee. PSALM 42 : 1”
I am continually being molded by My Papa. I am prone to the same cycles of destruction and yet He never turns from me. He softly calls me back and aligns my feet again. It is often in my times of pure devastation that I feel the most pure before God. My salvation is a continual, painful processing. God works by chipping away the parts of me that are not of Him in order to reveal the radiance of Christ so easily covered in filth by my sinfulness.
“For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. ROMANS 7 : 19”
“Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. PSALM 30 : 5”
I am learning to be joyous with my present circumstances and to focus on what God is calling me to do NOW not what He might call me to later. For my life is not my own, but a daily sacrifice given to the King of Kings. I realize that He is shaping me into a woman after His own image, despite my tendency to pull away from things that are Holy. I will always be a sinner but IN Christ I can be redeemed.
“But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!” ISAIAH 43 : 1”
“But if we hope for what we do not have, we wait for it patiently. ROMANS 8 : 25"
“You are our letter… written not in ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets, but on tablets of human hearts. 2 CORINTHIANS 3 : 2 – 3”
“You are all fair, my love; there is no flaw in you. SONG OF SOLOMON 4 : 7”
What shakes me more than the closeness I feel to the characters emotions is the idea that even today young ladies are being enslaved and used as sources of self satisfaction and sexual lust. How, as Christians, can we continue to turn away from the devastation found through sex trafficking, the porn industry, and the blatant disregard of a woman's worth? The media explicitly promotes the idea that a true woman is a sexual being and nothing more. When a woman is portrayed as strong she is a "bitch". When she is moral, she's a prude or a square or a coward. When she's promiscuous, she's a whore/tramp/slut. Why do we allow this attack on women? Why do we allow these images to flood the minds of our innocent girls? We desperately need a Savior.
“So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. MATTHEW 7 : 12”
My prayer is for an awakening in this country. I pray that we learn to view women the way God does. I pray that as women we find our self-worth not in materialistic or sexual ways but rather through Our Abba. I pray that our young girls would be deaf to the words of society and blind to the images portrayed by the media. I pray that God would be our great Redeemer. I pray for the destruction of sex trafficking and of the porn industry. I pray for healing in lustful hearts. I pray for a revolution.
“Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn, that he may heal us; he has stricken, and he will bind us up. HOSEA 6 : 1”
“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
PROVERBS 19 : 21”

Day 122
Thankful for courteous gentlemen, days spent playing with my dog and lazy afternoons.
Maybe it's because I have been single for 5 years now (gasp!) but simple acts of courtesy go a long way in my books. A guy who ensures that the door will always be open before me and closed behind me becomes automatically more attractive then the one unwilling to wait a few seconds for me to get to the door. A guy who calls me "ma'am" instantaneously gains hot points. Just saying fellas. It really comes down to the simple gestures.

Day 121
Thankful for lazy days spent watching ridiculous TV shows, baseball (even with frigid winds) and being able to spend a entire week with one of the most amazing ladies I know. Thankful that God has provided me with such a strong source of friendships.
